    Holiday Festivities in the Cape

Perched right on the banks of the massive Mississippi River, Cape Girardeau features a local culture that's both traditional and progressive. Whether you want picturesque scenery or a roaring good time in the middle of a casino floor, this burgeoning town is growing just enough to keep the locals enamored and the visitors returning. But when you visit at Christmas, you're guaranteed special holiday festivities in Cape Girardeau that will make you feel like you're at home no matter how far away from home you truly are.

    Things to Do
    Saturdays and Sundays in December
Here is a festive idea that won’t break the bank! For under $5 you can step back in time into this beautifully restored Victorian home festively decorated for the holidays. You will stroll the grounds and find Christmas cookies, coffee and cider. Catch a tour every Saturday and Sunday in December from 1:00pm – 4:00pm.

    Christmas at the Zoo
There's nothing quite as magical as the zoo decorated for the holiday season. The Lazy L Safari Park goes all out for the holiday and lights up the entire zoo with elaborate Christmas displays. Take your kids through the North Pole where they can meet Santa and take home a picture ($10). The live nativity scene is a heartwarming display of that very first Christmas with camels, donkeys, and sheep standing guard over the tiny baby boy. If Christmas hasn't come yet, Santa's Post Office is open and ready to send hundreds of letters straight to Santa at the North Pole just in time for Christmas morning.

    Places to Eat
The holiday season is a time to eat, but if you are visiting from out of town or you just don't feel like being chained to the kitchen, visit some of the local eateries for all the delicious food you can possible eat. (Yes – we might be slightly bias)

    December 24th, 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM
For just $24.95* a person, you can enjoy every traditional Christmas food in one sitting. You'll be treated to endless amounts of succulent turkey, perfectly prepared prime rib, and even a crepe station. Fill out your plates with sides like mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and hot rolls. If you're from the east coast, you can enjoy all-you-can-eat crab legs so you feel like you're back at home!

If you have evening plans, you can join Farmer's Pick from 10 AM to 3 PM for brunch! They'll have the aforementioned dishes but they'll also have an omelet station for the early birds.

If you're wanting a quiet and romantic Christmas meal, join Farraddays for their annual Christmas four course meal. You'll start out with a crispy oyster and braised pork belly appetizer followed by a crisp garden salad. Your main course will consist of a carefully prepared roast of lamb with dueling mashed potatoes, baby carrots, and a red win demi glaze. For dessert, you'll roll with delight over a triple chocolate cheesecake.

    Fun at the Casino
Don't forget to have a little adult fun! The ever popular Isle® Casino Cape Girardeau offers intriguing December promotions to keep you on your toes.

Every Saturday from December 6th to the 20th, two people will have a chance every half hour to take a prize from Santa's bag and win up to $1000. Use your fan club card and for every 100 tier points earned, you'll get one free entry to pull from Santa's bag.

Sign up at the cashier's cage starting at 3:00 PM on Wednesdays and for a $10 entry, you'll get a chance to win a share of $5,000. If you don't win, never fear: you still get a free buffet meal out of it.
